xs1100 - replacing oil pan

I did my annual oil change on the XS1100 and found that the threads came out with the oil drain bolt. I am not sure how this happened, but the bolt would not go back in with enough force to prevent leaks. I had a few choices.

  1. Install a helicoil
  2. Drill out the hole and tap it for a larger bolt
  3. Get a replacement oil pan
I already have a helicoil on the bike. It is on the final drive gear casing and it has a very slow leak so I don't want to mess with any more of those. The existing drain bolt is already a tight fit so I don't want a larger bolt.
I opted to get a replacement oil pan. Thankfully there were multiple on ebay, 5 to choose from. One was only 10 miles away so I went and picked that one up. The new-to-me oil pan must have been off of a midnightspecial as it has the remanants of black paint on it. No worries, I planned to bead blast and powder coat it anyways. This will be my first test of my new Silver Linings powder coat from Eastwood. If it looks good I will probably coat lots of parts in it.
