ts250 - installing LED brake light

After riding behind me a friend of mine told me my brake light was not working. When we were done with my ride I did some investigation. The brake light was working but there were two problems.

  1. It was dim
  2. It was angled up towards the sky
I took care of the angle of the brake light by moving it further back on the rear fender. It now directly faces traffic behind it rather than going up at about a 20 degree incline.
To address the dim bulb, I decided to get an LED light. I ended up getting the 35624R11576V bulb from LEDLight.com. It is 24 LEDs and runs at 6 volts. Most are LEDs are directly rear facing but 8 or so face around the perimiter of the bulb. It is the 1157 bulb style so it has two intensities, one for running lights and the other for braking. The light emitted is red so there is a minimum amount of light being blocked by the red tail light lense itself.
The before and after pictures speak for themselves. The LED light is much brighter.
*UPDATE*: The LED brake light broke into two pieces. There was no heat damage and the tail light did not take any hits. The bulb simply split from the base. Of course LEDLight.com says they are out of the warranty period and I am out of luck. That bulb probably only worked for 300 miles of service. What a cheap piece of crap.
