It was a year ago today I complained about lots of stuff breaking simultaneously. I always thought this phenomenon was cyclical but now I am sure. It seems to happen once a year.
This time more things broke but over a longer duration. For starters, the Bronco’s front left brake pad completely worn down without any indication. This is strange after just 20k miles. Normally you hear some screeching when the pad is getting low. All I heard was the grinding of the pad backing on the rotor. I replaced the rotor, both sets of front pads, and both front calipers. After all is said and done it still clicks when driving thanks to a troublesome ABS tone ring not fully seating on the wheel hub.
Next was the XS1100. All of a sudden one day the engine sounded like it was going to blow up when it hit 4k RPM. I replaced the cam chain but no luck, the wicket vibration was still there. I have since replaced the exhaust gaskets hoping that will take care of it. As soon as it stops raining I will test out the fix.
Next is the Saab. I almost cant count this one as it has been having problems since I got it a year ago. Bottom line, I replaced all the parts that were having problems. As soon as I fired it up, I noticed it was running rough and had a horrid backfire under hard acceleration. My best guess is that something is wrong with the fuel pump or injectors. Either way, I didnt touch anything in the fuel system while replacing parts so it looks like something broke down as it sat in the driveway for a month waiting on the last round of parts :(
Now all the vehicle problems are somewhat expected as all my vehicles are a ripe old age. But my home theater subwoofer problem came out of no where. All of a sudden it just started humming really loudly. It hums as soon as any signal wire is hooked up. I have tried hooking it up to the home theater, my mp3 player via a new cable, my computer stereo, all have the same result; the sub hums and makes no attempt to actually play what its receiving over the signal cable. Luckily this problem occurred when I had 1 day left on my 2 year warranty (no joke, a single day). I put it all back together and sent it off for service. I am still waiting for the results of that one. Hopefully they dont give me a hard time over having removed the amp so I could remove the screw on front cover for my custom in wall subwoofer mount.
Next was my phone. Out of the blue it crashed and refused to do anything. I couldnt even make or receive phone calls. I would press a button and 5 minutes later (no joke, really 5 minutes) it would execute the command. Only a system restore fixed the problem but unfortunately that caused me to have to reinstall all my extra software. The only silver lining there is that a new ROM was available for the Mogul. I went again and updated the ROM as long as I had completely blown away all my data anyways.
Oh and the waste pipe from the kitchen sink broke spilling water and other kitchen sink waste on the floor in the basement. That pipe had been just fine for the last 2 years but all of a sudden just had to break and make a rough time even rougher.
I just hope all the breakage is over, even if its just for another year. |
